All Natural Headache Remedies

Essential Oils

Whether from tension, stress, or nighttime teeth grinding, or if it just came from out of the blue, a headache is a pain in more ways than one. When it comes to headaches, you don’t want to wait for relief — you want it immediately! By now you must be familiar with the fact that chiropractic adjustments can help relieve headaches. Today, we’re sharing three more holistic remedies you can try for fast headache pain relief.

Essential Oils

There are a number of essential oils you can use to cure a headache, and most of them can be found at grocery stores that have natural or health sections, or even at your corner drugstore. Lavender oil smells great and is an excellent way to relieve headache pain. You can apply it externally (no need to dilute it) or boil two to four drops in about two cups of water and inhale the vapor.

Peppermint oil has been proven to help tension headaches in particular navigate here. Its vaso-constricting and vaso-dilating properties help promote better blood flow. It also opens up the sinuses to allow more oxygen into the bloodstream.

Basil isn’t just great on a pizza — the oil of the basil plant is a great headache treatment! Its a muscle relaxant, so it provides relief from tension headaches and pain caused by tight muscles.

Diet Adjustments

Foods including dairy, chocolate, some fruits, meats with nitrate, and anything with monosodium glutamate (MSG) are often triggers for headaches. Learn to recognize any foods that trigger your pain and leave those foods out of your diet. You’ll notice a change in the frequency of your headaches, and your body will feel better overall!

Massage

Oftentimes, tense or tight muscles are the root causes of headaches. Relieve your pain with a do-it-yourself scalp massage that focuses on the back of your head, near the base of your skull. Research has shown that massaging this area in particular can help relieve pain from migraines. Massage in general is great for tight muscles, especially when you focus on the neck, shoulders, and even reflex points on the hands and fee.
